53rd Annual Meeting of the KVAA set for April 23, 2012

The Kennebec Valley Art Association will hold its 53rd annual meeting on

Monday, April 23rd at 7 p.m. at the Harlow Gallery.

Business will include:

  • Voting in new and returning board members
  • Brainstorming plans to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Harlow Gallery in 2013

Come take a look back at 2011, hear all the news about upcoming exhibitions and help us honor some key volunteers.  Please bring a dessert or beverage to share during the break.

Julie Barter is a financial advisor with Edward Jones. She joined the KVAA board in the beginning of 2012 and she is also a member of the Hallowell Rotary Club and serves on the board of the Kennebec Valley Humane Society. Julie lives in Readfield with her significant other Pete and a yellow lab named Asher. Together they enjoy fishing, hiking and generally spending time outside with friends and family. Julie’s favorite artist is Ansel Adams because she loves black & white photography. She also loves Terry Redline, explaining that it “comes from living in the Midwest for 12 years.”

Larry Brown moved to Belgrade Lakes 21 years ago. He has worked for 18 years as an Information Technology Administrator. He served on the Messalonskee School for 11 years and has been a member of the KVAA board of directors for 4 years, and president of the board since 2011. Larry has three cats and three children. He paints and is an a film buff. Larry’s favorite artist has changed several times – he currently favors Marcel Duchamp.

Karen Johnson lives in East Winthrop with her family. She is a certified public accountant with an office in downtown Augusta. Her family enjoys boating, motorcycling and camping together. Karen’s favorite artists are Florence Daly, Greg Mort and Nancy Barron.  She has serving as the treasurer of the KVAA board of directors since 2009.

Perry McCourtney lives in Hallowell, where he works as a realtor with McAllister Real Estate. He is a member of the Kennebec Valley Board of Realtors, the Maine Association of Realtors and he serves on the board of the Hubbard Free Library.  He joined the KVAA board of directors in 2011. Perry is an avid art collector who enjoys home renovation and gardening. He dotes on French bulldog Jack. Perry could not choose one favorite artist, saying “There are dozens on my list!”

Linda Sadoff lives and works in Hallowell and maintains a private psychotherapy practice in the River Studio.  She joined the board of directors at the end of 2011. Her two adult children return to Hallowell almost often enough. Until becoming involved with the Harlow Gallery, her favorite artists were Van Gogh, Matisse and Bonnard, but the Harlow Gallery has opened her eyes to exciting new local artists.
