Britta Konau, juror of Art2015
On Tuesday, April 28th curator Britta Konau judged the Harlow Gallery’s 20th annual juried art exhibition. 58 works of art by 40 Maine artists were selected to be included in the exhibition out of a total of 371 works submitted by 121 artists. Art2015 will be on view May 6-30, with an opening reception on Wednesday, May 6 from 5-8pm, with prizes announced at 6 pm. The public is invited to attend to meet the artists and to experience a diverse mix of high quality artwork from all corners of Maine.
Britta Konau is an art writer, critic, and lecturer on contemporary art. Her regular outlets for publication include a biweekly column, “art current,” in the Free Press, until recently a monthly review in the Portland Phoenix and now in Dig Portland. She has also written articles for regional and national art magazines, including Art New England, and is a contributor to Maine Art New, a broad survey of art in Maine which will become available in 2015. Previously, she was the curator at the Center for Maine Contemporary Art in Rockport and held curatorial positions at the National Museum of Women in the Arts and the Corcoran Gallery of Art, both in Washington, DC.

Prizes awarded to artists in a ceremony beginning at 6 pm on May 6th will include Best in Show, a $500 cash prize sponsored by the Marketplace at Augusta, Second Place $250 cash prize sponsored by Minuteman Signs of Augusta, Third Place $150 cash prize sponsored by The Bank of Maine, a special $200 20th Anniversary Prize sponsored by Monkitree in Gardiner, and Juror’s Choice, with a cash prize of $150 sponsored by Maine Film Center.
Additional prizes were donated by Capital Area Camera Club, Colby College Museum of Art, Gosline’s Hardware, Grand Central Cafe, Maine Traditional Film Photographers Group, and Railroad Square Cinema. Gallery visitors can vote for their favorite work during the exhibition, and the winner of the popular vote will receive “The People’s Choice Award”, with a $100 cash prize sponsored by The Animal Wellness Center.
The public is invited to a special Cinco de Mayo Preview Gala on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 from 6-8pm at the Harlow Gallery.
