Internships at the Harlow Gallery are exciting opportunities for college students looking to pursue a career in the arts. Students with an interest in non-profit organizations are especially encouraged to apply. Interns are accepted on a rolling basis as can be accommodated. Applicants should be undergrad or graduate students and be able to commit to 6-10 hours per week for a minimum of three months. Some weekend hours are likely. All of our internships are unpaid.
The Harlow Gallery’s internship program includes areas of concentration that follow our association’s non-profit committee structure as well as a Marketing focus. These concentrations include: Exhibition/Curatorial, Development, Education/Programming and PR/Marketing.
Candidates should have excellent attention to detail, a good sense of humor, effective communication skills, the ability to work in a fast paced environment, and knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel. Applicants must be able to meet deadlines, work autonomously, and be creative in developing exciting materials. The candidate must be flexible and willing to work on a wide variety of projects. All interns will choose a concentration as well as perform basic gallery related responsibilities such as:
General Office tasks: scheduling, mailings, data entry, filing, fielding phone calls and emails, daily cash reconciliation and sales.
Member Relations: Processing memberships, volunteer communications, renewals, fielding inquiries, member communication including email blasts and development of regular newsletter.
Artist Relations: Communicating with artists about exhibition information and image.
Basic Curatorial tasks: Gallery readiness, labels for exhibitions, hosting art delivery and pick up.
Marketing: Posters, social media blitz and documentation of events for future promotional material.

This intern will work closely with the Development-Fundraising committee and provide support for fundraising events.
Duties include: Attending the Development-Fundraising committee meetings, compiling a list of prospects for partnership with our association, assisting with various fund raising events, proof reading promotional material, renewal letters, thank you letters and newsletters, assisting with annual appeals and membership drives, maintaining the donations log and fundraiser spreadsheets.
This intern will work closely with the Education-Programming committee and provide support for Education/Programming events.
Duties include: Attending Education/Programming Committee meetings, assisting with educational events and special programs, compiling and updating a comprehensive list of area art educators, assisting with “Young at Art” month, help with ongoing educational programs such as the ArtTalk series and Free Movie nights at the Harlow, assisting with the promotional materials for the aforementioned series and assist with updating the area educators blog site.
This intern will work closely with the Exhibitions Committee and provide support for upcoming exhibitions.
Duties include: Attending Exhibition Committee meetings, online research, proposal review and feedback, maintenance of gallery walls, general gallery upkeep, communications with artists awarded shows, can include review and or delivery or pick up of artwork, updating artist contacts and exhibition agreements as well as developing a workable consignment agreement.
PR and Marketing Intern:
This intern will work closely with the Harlow Staff in promoting exhibitions, events and programming using various promotional tools.
Duties include: Writing press release drafts, updating facebook, websites and online calendars, designing exhibition postcards, fliers and other promotional material and photo documentation of events and updating photo archives on Picasa. Knowledge of graphic design, Photoshop, WordPress or HTML helpful but not required.
