Local Food Celebration set for October 13

Local food!  Local art! Prizes!  Music!  Mini farmers market! Historic setting!

The Harlow Gallery, the Kennebec Local Food Initiative and the Vaughan Homestead Foundation invite you and your family to participate in a celebration of local food, farms and art, to include a local food feast with giant potluck on Saturday, October 13, 2012 from 4 to 7 pm at the Vaughan Homestead in Hallowell.

The celebration marks the last months of CSA: Community Supporting Arts, a year-long project matching artists with farms in and around central Maine. Join project organizers, artists and farmers as we celebrate the 2012 harvest together.

Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the gate (if available and while they last). Kids 12 and under are free when accompanied by an adult. Attendees must bring a potluck dish to share created using local food. We will celebrate come rain or shine. For tickets call the Harlow Gallery at 622-3813 or  email us at kvaa@harlowgallery.org.

We’ll be giving away local food items, including a turkey raised on Milkweed Farm, a half gallon of maple syrup from Goranson’s farm, gift certificates and more. Twisted Strings playing 4-5 and then back to wrap up the evening after the prize drawing!

Twisted Strings is an acoustic duo, playing old and new tunes with Celtic roots. Michele Roy, fiddle, and Will West, guitar and Irish bouzouki.

ODLAW playing 5-7pm:

OdLaW is a Waldo county, Maine based band that brings together musician/writers with varied backgrounds to produce a catalog of original songs without stylistic constraints. OdLaW has been described as an extremely accessible mix of eclectic, alternative, Americana, rock ‘n’ soul. OdLaW’s beats, grooves, lyrics and melody’s, will keep your body, and mind, moving.

The bands own label, ONO JUAN MEDIA, has a credo, “It’s never too late to do it yourself.” They wrote and recorded their album at home. They have several music video’s on Youtube, some made by local teens seeking a career in film production. Bass/Voc. Jerry Weaver and his wife, Melinda, also band manager, took part in a homebirth documentary, At Home in Maine, which featured a track from the disc, Learn to Love. Jerry and Melinda have a small farm and also develop holistic products in addition to other creative outlets. Guitar/Voc. Sam Ladd is also a mason, specializing in local materials in his constructs. New drummer to the band, Jesse Waryck, is a long time staff member of the Belfast Coop. Several of the instruments used by the band were created by Flewelling Guitars of Northport, Maine. Their material is meed by Belfast, Maine resident Lincoln Clapp, who has worked on recordings by Whitney Houston, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Ramones, Bee Gees, James Taylor and many more. They band will release their follow up disc, OdLaW – Getting Us Nowhere, this fall.
