Award winning artist Barbara Applegate will present a Still Life demonstration on Tuesday, October 13, at 7 PM at the Harlow Gallery, 160 Water Street, in Hallowell. Audience members will have the opportunity to view the many stages of an oil painting as it evolves from initial concept to completion. Applegate is well known for her use of color and light to evoke response from the viewer. “. . Her landscape and still life paintings capture ordinary moments in the day filling them with light.” This demonstration will focus on the importance of a strong composition, the use of color in building mood and accuracy, and the all important knowledge of how to complete a painting.
Recipient of numerous national awards for excellence including the Gold Medal from the American Artist Professional League and the Knickerbocker Club of New York; Barbara has been exhibited throughout the United States in various juried exhibitions and public museums. Applegate opened the Barbara Applegate Gallery in 2008 in Bristol Mills and is represented locally by the Bayview Galleries in Brunswick and Camden. She is an artist member of the Pemaquid Art Gallery.
