Seven Area High Schools Participating this Year in “Higher Forms of Art”

In celebration of Youth Art Month the Kennebec Valley Art Association proudly presents an exhibition of artwork by art students from area seven high schools, including Cony, Gardiner, Hall-Dale, Kents Hill, Maranancook, Readfield, and Winthrop High Schools. The public is invited to join students and faculty at the opening reception on Friday, March 4th from 5 to 8 pm at the Harlow Gallery in downtown Hallowell.  The opening will feature live music by high school aged musicians and refreshments will be served.  Higher Forms of Art will be on view March 2-12, 2011.

The Kennebec Valley Art Association is proud that 2011 marks our 5th annual exhibition of artwork by area high school students. In years past this has been a 3 day only exhibition, but this year we are expanding it to a full two weeks!   Also new for 2011, some of the work will be offered for sale during the exhibition.  The Harlow Gallery is raising funds in support of Higher Forms of Art on the internet via Kickstarter. Located at www.kickstarter.com, the site is “A new way to Fund & Follow Creativity”.  Funds raised on Kickstarter will also support Young at Art, a showcase of artwork area students in grades K-8, coming to the Harlow March 16-26, 2011.

Higher Forms of Art is meant give young artists an opportunity to show their work in a professional space, and to get a taste of what goes into organizing a professional art exhibit.  The students will participate in hanging the exhibition and planning and organizing the opening night and provide food and entertainment for the opening.  Student work from Kent’s Hill School is featured on the show postcard.  The Kennebec Valley Art Association invites the public to come and cheer their efforts.

Made possible in part by our season sponsor Kennebec Savings Bank.
