This is one of a series of interviews with members of the Kennebec Valley Art Association (KVAA), and artists and community members who have been influential in shaping the Harlow Gallery and the KVAA. These short videos by Art Mayers were filmed in 2013, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Harlow Gallery in 1963.
Ted and Ruth Bookey have been involved since the 1960s. Ruth’s mother Gertraud Lippmann (know as Traute) was a founding member of the KVAA, and Ruth has been an active member, showing her art and volunteering her time at the gallery for many years. Ted Bookey read his poetry at the Harlow Gallery in the 1960s, and he and Ruth have been organizing ongoing poetry readings at the Harlow since the 90’s.
