FRIDAY, AUGUST 10, 2018
Sign-in: 6:30pm | Reading starts: 7pm
The Bookey Readings At The Harlow invites area poets to come and read their work during an open mic night at the Harlow Gallery on Friday, August 10, 2018. Doors open at 6:30pm for poets to ‘sign in’ to read, with sign up ending promptly at 7pm. All poet’s names will be thrown (literally) into a hat, and readers will wait for their name to be selected. Each reader has a maximum of 5 minutes to read, which means they can read 3 short poems of 16 lines each; 2 medium poems of 25-30 lines each; or 1 long poem of 50-60 lines. When your name is called, you’re on! This will be a fun night that gives poets who might not have an opportunity to read their work, to do so in a great venue and in a good spirit of fun and support. Poetry must be appropriate for an all-age audience.
During the reading visitors can also enjoy a solo exhibition of paintings by Bruce Mayo which is on view through September 1, 2018.
The Harlow is a membership based 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to connecting and celebrating art, artists and community in downtown historic Hallowell since 1963. Exhibitions are always free and open to the public.
Season Sponsors for 2018 are Book Orchard Press, Capitol Dental Care, Chris Walters Productions, Doug & Melinda Jennings, Great Gatherings, Eaton Peabody Attorneys at Law, Scrummy Afters Candy Shoppe, Slates Restaurant and Target Electric Corporation.
Programming is funded in part by a Partnership Grant from the Maine Arts Commission, an independent state agency supported by the National Endowment for the Arts.
